Kenai holds its 11th annual Pumpkin Festival on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Softball Greenstrip. The highlight is a pumpkin dropped from a fire truck. The festival also has a pumpkin art display and contest, pumpkin painting, giveaways, hayrides, cider, food trucks, music and games.
Kenai Community Library has two events today that lead into the festival. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., people can swap gently used Halloween costumes for new ones. From 4 to 5 p.m., the library runs a no-carve pumpkin decorating workshop with supplies provided, aimed at the festival’s pumpkin contest. Free pumpkins go to the first 20 children.
Farther south on the peninsula, Homer’s 43rd annual Rotary Health Fair takes place Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Homer High School. It offers affordable lab tests and health screenings, with more than 40 local health and wellness groups taking part.
